Boiler Inspection

Boiler Inspection

Boiler inspection refers to the process of examining and evaluating boilers to ensure their safe operation, compliance with regulations, and to identify any potential issues or defects. Boilers are pressure vessels used to generate steam or hot water for heating, power generation, or industrial processes.

Key Steps and Points

1. Preparation Before Inspection

  • Review boiler documents and maintenance history
  • Check operational history and usage conditions
  • Prepare measuring instruments and inspection equipment, such as Ultrasonic, Thickness Gauge, Inspection Camera, and Video Bore Scope

2. External Inspection

  • Inspect the condition of the boiler and external components, including:
  • Leaks, cracks, or rust
  • Stability of pipes and installed equipment
  • Condition of thermal insulation
  • Inspect safety valves and pressure gauges
  • Check for water or steam leaks

3. Internal Inspection

  • Open the boiler and inspect Tubes, Drum, and Headers
  • Look for corrosion, scaling, cracking
  • Inspect Water Wall Tubes, Superheater, and Economizer
  • Measure tube thickness (Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement)
  • Check for cracks or corrosion
  • Inspect Boiler Tube Supports and Attachments
  • Inspect Internal Fittings, such as Burners and Air Ducts

4. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

  • UTM (Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement): Measure thickness of tubes and components
  • MT (Magnetic Particle Testing): Detect cracks in metallic materials
  • PT (Dye Penetrant Testing): Detect surface cracks
  • RT (Radiographic Testing): Inspect inside tubes and welds
  • VT (Visual Inspection): Detect cracks or general abnormalities

5. Recording and Evaluation

  • Record inspection results and defects
  • Assess boiler safety and remaining service life
  • Prepare a summary report with a maintenance plan

6. Maintenance & Repair

  • Clean tubes and drum
  • Repair leaks, cracks, or replace damaged tubes
  • Inspect and adjust safety devices
  • After maintenance, perform Hydro Testand Pressure Test before operation
